SFX Makes Another Big Buy Acquiring Electric Zoo

Dance music investors SFX made another big purchase today announcing the addition of New York City festival promoter Made Event. Best known for their end of summer Electric Zoo Festival, the production company seems to have bowed in to the dollars offered by Robert Sillerman and the SFX team.  Made produces several events throughout the year such as the Governor’s Beach Club concert series in New York, Armin van Buuren’s ASOT 600 at Madison Square Garden, and recent sold-out shows by Hardwell and Benny Benassi.

“The acquisition of Made is strategically important for SFX, as it establishes a strong foothold for us in the New York City region,” said SFX Chairman and CEO Robert F.X. Sillerman.  “Co-founders Mike Bindra and Laura De Palma are the ultimate industry professionals, and our management team will benefit greatly from their years of experience. We plan to develop the Electric Zoo brand internationally and have the opportunity to build other SFX brands in the U.S. with the support of Mike, Laura and the team at Made.”

This buy seems vaguely familiar to they glory days of travelling circuses going defunct. After unfortunate drug-related deaths at this years EZOO, Made Event was forced to cancel the third and final day of the event. Though the well-run promotion team was not to blame for such incidents, the cancellation no doubt hurt their bank account. Did SFX swoop in to pick up the promoters after this recent blow?

New York City dance circuit promoters have seen increased stringency from a city scared of repeats. Raves are on thin ice with most towns playing a balancing act with increased revenue versus insurance risk. Dance music party planners are on the hunt for ways to resolve disastrous drug issues caused by the bro-endorsed YOLO lifestyle.

The SFX backing behind Made Event is sure to get them back on their feet. Sillerman’s camp is widening the gap with each new industry acquisition. Adding EZOO to their current roster including Disco Donnie Presents, ID&T, and Beatport puts a fair amount of muscle to the veteran promoter’s electrionic venture. If you are looking for a friend SFX seems the place to be for dance music.
