Flume ‘Trying To Avoid The Poisons of Success’

In a recent interview with the Guardian Australia, Australian producer Flume has spoken in detail  of his first album’s lifecycle and how he plans to move forward in writing the second. With almost a year of solid touring under his belt post the initial release of the self-titled debut, the Future Classic flagship producer, who is currently supporting Disclosure in Europe admits that he is at the point where; “I just want to write some music”

Since the success of his debut album in which he juggled working a job and writing music, the Northern beaches based 22 year old explained; “I’m just trying to work out how to write music now, because I’ve never had the opportunity where my number-one priority is writing music”.

Having had a big taste of success and garnered a better understanding of how the music industry responds, as well as releasing a collaborative EP with Chet Faker Harley figures,

“I don’t know how my brain works yet. I know how to make a record that commercial radio or Triple J will smash now … It’s kind of hard to stay true, and write what you would write if you didn’t have that in your head. Because I know I can get way more airplay and get this much bigger … and that’s what I’m trying to avoid doing. Trying to avoid the poisons of success.”

The argument stands true, success can dramatically change a once innocent thought process, by which writing your own music can now be peppered with any artists vocals or production touches at drop of a hat (or email these days).

Now living out of home with a fresh world class studio and the recent release of the ‘Deluxe’ edition of his critically acclaimed album the world is an oyster for the young aussie, one we hope stays pure!
