Will Deep House Have A Lifecycle Similar To Trap Or Dubstep?

With the way in which dance music is consumed, we have seen sub genres including electro, trap, ‘EDM’ and dubstep both explode and diminish in time frames spanning as short as 12 months. Having seen history repeat itself in this trending manner, we have been thinking, could deep house be destined for the same path? Who better to ask than long standing Dogmatik signed club and deep house duo Dusky.

“It’s possible, but unlikely I’d say. Dubstep, Trap, and now commercial EDM have all shared a lightning-fast ascension to popularity, which makes them all the more likely to fall out of favour with similar speed. We’ve already seen that with the more commercial side of Dubstep for example. But deep house has been around for over 25 years so it seems unlikely it’ll suddenly drop off the map. It will certainly lose some popularity but the underground scene will continue in places like Ibiza, Berlin, and London.”

With the belief in a pre-existing scene that has held them in good stead since their inception, we wanted to know on the topic of trending whether it was now, in fact, their moment! The duo shared:

“It sounds like a cliché but we try not to think too much about that. We try to focus on creating music that we find stimulating and that we think people will find enjoyable and interesting. We hope for the best, but we find if you worry about success too much it can be self-defeating.”

Dusky will be playing at this years edition of Field Day in Sydney on January 1st 2014. Our full interview with Dusky touched making contemporary classic hits, their desired collaborations and plenty more!
