Bag Raiders

Bag Raiders have been suspiciously quiet over the last few years. With not a lot being said nor revealed we thought it was time someone best talk to them to see what the hell is going on.

Having been based in LA living as Aussie expatriates, the duo are set to return to Australian shores for some DJ set appearance including one on New Years Eve at cargo bar and more. Here is what they had to say about fast food, LA living, EDM culture and more!

It’s been over 2 years since your last release. What are you hiding from us?!

An album! Nearly done now but it’s been a long-ass process. It’s getting harder and harder to make albums which is a bit sad but that’s the way it goes I guess. We’re super excited to get this one out there. I think it’s got a bit of something on there for whatever your mood.

How is life in America? Do you guys supersize your meals on the reg(ular)?

Actually it’s pretty easy to eat healthy in LA. Such kale. That’s not to say we don’t splash out with the occasional late night Tacozone or in-n-out. Some of my new faves are Philippe’s french dip, Chik-fil-A and Langer’s deli. Well worth checking out if you’re in town!

How has the creative process of making your music been in American and how does it compare to when you were living in Australia?

We work in more or less the same way but LA is inspiring in the fact that there’s so many people making music out here. And there’s so much music history. We’re constantly meeting and hanging out with people we look up to, sometimes buying (music) gear off them. And some amazing dudes (some from some pretty big bands) played on our record – not going to drop any names though!

Do you feel there is an expectation with your next release and do you feel pressured by this?

I wouldn’t say we felt any pressure explicitly, it’s not something we ever talked about. But I suppose it has taken us a pretty long time to make the record. I don’t think we ever think about having to beat or trump the first record in any way. We mostly just put pressure on ourselves to make something that we can be proud of. And something we think will still sound good in 5 or 25 years time.

What’s your take on the popularity of ‘EDM’ in America? Do you guys feel a part of that or a dance music scene in America at all?

Honestly, I kinda hate it. We’re sucked up into that scene in the fact that we sometimes end up playing shitty parties where we don’t really fit in. But the whole thing makes my skin crawl.

If an Australian were to visit America, what would be the three things you recommend they do?

Take a road trip, eat BBQ, don’t fuck with the border police
