We Asked Jacques Lu Cont What Makes A Current Day Classic Hit

He’s earned three Grammys and worked with Madonna, The Killers, New Order, Kylie Minogue, Scissor Sisters and many more while releasing his own productions as Stuart Price, Thin White Duke and Les Rythmes Digitales meaning he knows a thing or two about timeless classics. Thankfully he believes that current day producers still have the opportunity to create what would be considered a ‘timeless track’ thus leading us to ask the man behind the phenomenal classic “(Hey You) Whats That Sound?” what defines one;

‘I think classics come about because they are so good they get lodged in people’s hearts. A lot of tracks go by in a moment of vogue, and if a year later they feel over-played, they probably weren’t a ‘classic’. But the ones that live on and on always stand on their own feet. They have a magic you can’t define’

The UK based producer articulated on the topic of juggling his writing for other artists whilst dabbling with his many personal aliases that include Zoot Woman, Thin White Duke and Pour Homme;

‘I like to go back and forth between the two. I love to take ideas from one style and take them to the other. Crossing genres is more exciting for me when its about using concepts and lending them to each other rather than taking specific sounds and just chucking them in rock tracks.’

Currently prepping for an Australian tour including the summer sizzler harbourlife party , you can catch the musically gifted genre surfing composer as early as next Thursday. Check out the full interview here!
