Artist Rips off Asa & Koan Sound and Feels the Wrath of the Internet

Simple rule, don’t steal other peoples work and claim it as yours… more so as blatantly as unknown producer Havirest has with Asa & Koan Sounds recent ‘Sanctuary’ EP. Not bothering to sample, remix or even edit it slightly, the criminal producer merely re-named and re-uploaded the tracks to Beatport for his own profit. Not cool.

Thankfully the Internet is a small place these days and before long keen web-tectives picked up that Havirest has nabbed the tracks not only from Asa & Koan but a handful of other artists including Skism, SchoolBoy, Sub Focus and Figure.

Strangely instead of admitting guilt and pulling everything offline he offered a weird ultimatum via his Facebook.

This is just the beginning of my war. It is almost impossible to remove the material that is in distribution, only be eliminated if I get to talk to Skism, SchoolBoy, Sub-Focus and figure in private. After that the profits will be sent to the real artists if sales report, the content will be removed beatport and havirest there forever. They only have 48 hours to get me that talk in private. Sincerely Havirest.

Simply put, if those artists don’t get in contact directly with this thief, he will continue to sell and take profit from the beats he stole.

Which could set a very, very dangerous precedent of anyone doing this without understanding the full damage being done here.

Usually we wouldn’t bother giving this guy any sort of promotion unintentionally, I mean he stole someone else’s hard work and released it as his own. Rather we want Asa, Koan, Skism, SchoolBoy, Sub Focus and Figure to see this and make sure people like Havirest understand to great lengths that is it not a fantastic idea to steal someone else’s beats and release them for their own profit, ever.

Thankfully most of the comments on the above update read loud and clear that people know exactly what’s going on, and will do their best to remove the tracks or cause a lot of trouble for the what seems to be young producer, including Asa’s own comment;

Cheers for trying to steal mine & koan sounds EP, you must be a very unhappy person to resort to doing things like this.

The Internet is watching…

Update: Skism has cottoned on and has some stern words to say;

“Trust me bro, you definitely DON’T want to meet me in private…not alone anyway….”

We’ll keep updating as it happens.
