In an act that is so Euro-awesome we can barely handle it, attendees of the annual Unsound Festival have resorted to doing amazing artworks after photography of all kinds were banned from the performances.
Understandably taking a hiatus from all-things-recording including cameras, iPhones and iPads (thats right, some ravers been taking to the d-floor with the un-fun kind of tablets), the organisers of the festival in Krakow, Poland, wanted audiences to get back to the roots of the music whilst simultaneously being on a humanitarian mission to destroy the selfie!
Big ups to the guy who initially would have been like, ‘what? I can’t take my iPhone to document my raver experience? Guess I’ll have to take my 10-peice oil pastel set and matching watercolours instead, shuala!’ A massive amount of people got involved in taking the festival to the canvas, many of the works of which were later streamed onto the festivals Facebook page.
Artists featured in the works include Pearson Sound, Anthony naples and Lauren Halo of Hyperdub amongst many others. There’s also a stellar self-portrait by Evian Christs, doing his thang on the decks whilst a crowd and seemingly solitary guitar player stick-around below (see if you can pick out that one).
All in all, we’re a big fan of literal artistic license over here at Stoneys, and we enjoy the idea of our favourite artists being preserved through some trippy aesthetic creativity. Perhaps some more initiatives like this would help stop the demise of Aussie music festivals?
