Can you hear that? It’s the misery expulsion of undergraduate media intern-hopefulls everywhere, as MTV announces that they’re kicking the bucket in the sunburnt country.

In the growing trend of online media’s dominance over television, the crew at MTV have called it quits on their Sydney office  which controlled broadcasting over Australia and New Zealand.

Falling to larger channels in the subscription television services, such as Channel V, the company has been fighting against competition and larger financial woes.

In correlation with the station’s shift from music programming to almost total overtaking by sub-standard reality television, the amount of national programming has disintegrated to pretty much nil.

A part of the larger company Viacom whom have described the move as ‘leveraging its international infrastructure’, the controls will be amalgamated to the London office of MTV. This will disappointingly see redundancies from the Sydney leg of the operation, with only a few staff kept on to manage sales, marketing and talent management.

Our hopes of the Australian exclusive Teen Mom: Bogan Edition have been sorely dashed!

Adios MTV, we hardly knew ye.
