Growing up on electro and hip-hop before drifting into the world of pirate radio at the peak of acid house and hardcore, British techno mainstay Ben Sims has been a fixture on the UK’s underground scene for two decades as both a DJ and producer, and has finally been given the opportunity to mix ‘Fabric 73’, the next instalment of the London club’s long-running compilation series. With previous Fabric’s this year from the likes of garage legend DJ EZ, Apollonia, Cassy and Friction, Sims’ enormous 44-track mix CD is apparently heavily influenced by what he calls the “perfect and elusive” environment of Fabric’s dark, no-frills Room 2. Quite obviously, too – he’s selected cuts from the likes of Kryptic Minds, Benjamin Damage, Mark Broom and Marcel Dettmann to name just a few, as well as including 18 (!) unreleased tunes to accompany a heap of his own edits.
