Diplo’s somewhat longstanding mix series for his radio show ‘Diplo & Friends’ has brought a whole heap of talent to the decks when it’s come down to enrolling the best of the best for his Radio 1 show, we’ve seen mixes from Felix Cartel, Lunice, the mysterious Trippy Turtles, Zeds Dead, hell even Avicii appeared for a decent slot but we’ve been left scratching our heads over the latest from trance celeb Tiesto.

Although Diplo had promised a two hour set from the Dutch superstar a good while ago and yeah he pulled it off, it sort of comes off an an ego thing for the Major Lazer don having already prepped it as “something extremely huge”.

Sure it was Tiesto, who earned a cool $32 million last year according to Forbes’ ‘DJ Rich List’ and even made inroads into deep house with a new radio show but we can’t help but think this served no one apart from Diplo’s ego. He played a somewhat safe mix with the usual names slotted together with tracks from Alesso, Example, Dirty South, Martin Solveig, new comer Deorro and even The Aston Shuffle, but what did he expect? Personally we’d have preferred seeing Switch in DJ mode or Paul Woodford laying down some thick club jams for the next mix, c’mon Diplo!
