Sexism Still Active In EDM

A recent spiel on the Huffington post has blown sh*t up on sexism in EDM.

Written by Sara Gates, the article features Krewlla, a trio comprised of the Yousef sisters, Cassy, Brazzabelle and Jack (aka. Jaqueline) Novak, whom changed her name for what can only be assumed as business purposes.

An in depth look at what female DJs face in the industry, the article gives a pretty bleak outlook regarding the concept that female’s can’t produce their own beats.

It’s a good one, and worth a read for sure, but we’re slightly concerned about the structure of the article. Gates still opens the piece with what the Yousef sisters are wearing (tank top, harem pants and a skirt if you’re interested), which gives the whole thing a bit of a Woman’s Day vibe.

She also puts a sub heading ‘Learning to Produce’ which is a bit off. We would have liked something a bit more neutral to introduce some talented ladies to the industry.

Give it a squidge and let us know what you think.
