Richie Hawtin To Play Intimate Set At The Guggenheim Museum

Legendary techno producer and DJ Richie Hawtin, who will play next months ADE conference, has been given the honour of playing at the Guggenheim Museum for this years annual fundraising event ‘The Guggenheim International Gala’. The iconic museum’s event, set in the heart of New York is sponsored by Dior and headed by Belgium fashion designer Raf Simons and will play out over two days – November 6th and 7th. Hawtin will also be playing at the pre-party on the 6th as his popular 90’s alias Plastikman which veers from his usual techno to something that is ‘abstract and minimal works’.

In a recent short interview with Women’s Wear Daily (of course), event director Simons spoke about his excitement at securing the British native producer – “I listen to Hawtin’s music like others listen to classic music” simons continues, “As Plastikman it is also an amazing live experience so I am extremely grateful that he accepted to bring it back for the evening”. Hawtin will also be joined by his brother Matthew in the pre-party DJ entertainment.

Tickets for the event start from $125 for general admission, up to $500 for a single VIP ticket and go all the way to the rather pricey $1000. The most expensive ticket includes a 1-year Young Collectors Council membership (to the museum) and a 2-for-1 VIP ticket. Ticket sales are only available for existing ‘Young Collector Council Members’ of the museum at the moment.

Hawtin recently hosted a Boiler Room session at his home in Ibiza that featured a very controversial Grimes set that strayed from the usual thumping techno lines and more across the… cheesy pop hits of yester-year with some fans having a laugh, while others not so much.

Richie also features in ‘Boiler Room Funny Moments’ when he flips off a rather attractive blonde groupie. Not all laughs at this years Coachella festival though when his soundcard broke and he wasn’t able to play his set, in a rather ‘awww’ moment a couple DJs that included Jamie Jones, Loco Dice and Maya Jane Coles gave up 20 minutes of their own sets so he could play on the final day… and that’s what it’s all about right?
