Hey Laneway, Heres Who We Want For 2014

With the Laneway Festival announce just around the corner (ahem tomorrow at 8am) and the Detroit leg of things finishing up we’re having a good think about who’d fit next years bill. Already somewhat confirmed has been indie-dance band CHVVCHES as well lo-fi glazer Washed Out (not such a bad thing).

The last few years have seen the festival grown with the aid of an electronic presence helping grooves being laid and experimental beats being introduced to an array of intelligent listeners. Factoring in what we know, what we’d like and what we want here are five we’d like to see a whole lot on the official Laneway 2014 Lineup.

Cashmere Cat

Here, but only for a second. Cashmere Cat played Future Classics Vivid Night and proved to be wildly popular. His own brand of future RnB cut with slick electronica allowed the long haired producer to surface through the last twelve months including a spot on GTA V’s official soundtrack and purportedly recording a track with Ludacris. With Future Classic curating their own stage last year we can only imagine they’d be bringing back a sure thing for Laneway 2014.

With his wares being plugged at Laneways own party at this years SXSW in Austin, Texas you’d think something was going between the 17-year old wunderkid. Having only a handful of down-tempo muddy beats to his name, his latest “Pay Attention” for instance. He’s already made his way down under to play a run of shows, show’s we’d happily attend again.

Flume and Chet Faker

Having just announced a collaborative EP on the way and playing at the recent Laneway Detroit this is a somewhat sure bet. Their presence at festivals all around Australia and those globally mean these local draw cards are an easy crowd favourite and yet another reason why we love Australian music so much. Expect one, the other or both on this years lineup. Guaranteed.

Jamie XX - Performance

Young Turks and Laneway go together like waffles and cocaine so chances of someone from the YT fraternity on the lineup is a must. Previous years have seen SBTRKT, Bullion, Chairlift, John Talabot and Glasser just to name a few perform so a Laneway without a Youn Turks artist just ain’t right. Our pick is on Jamie xx having mosed on through earlier in the year with his band The xx to celebrate the release of ‘Coexist’ and play his own solo drum laden DJ sets.

Played Laneway Detroit, has a new album ‘Parocasm’ in the bag and hinted he’d be heading back to Australia in the earlier months. Even if you were a safe gambler you’d put money down on Ernest heading back downunder after a stint at Laneway 2012 and we can’t wait.
