Youan

youan-header

To mark Youan’s latest release and follow up to his ‘Girl EP’ we shared some words with he emerging producer. Known for an irresistible house sound, Youan’s tunes have been praised near and far. Bridging the gab between pop music and dance, Youan is part of the new wave of respected mainstream electronic sound.

As huge fans of smooth tunes perfect for the dance floor his latest release ‘Your Trust’ earns thumbs up all across the board. This tune features a particularly funky groove original and catchy in it’s own way. The new wave of pop music is here and artist like Youan are lined up to catch the ride.

We chatted with Youan about the evolution of popular music starting in the UK but expanding throughout the globe. It seems that the underground trend has coincidentally met the Billboard favorites in a unique harmony that is blasting the charts. See what he had to say.

Let’s start with a quick introduction for those that are out of the loop. We took care of the basics but in your own words what type of music are you making and what led to it?

I’ve been into music and specifically it’s production for a long time, I think just now I’m starting to get serious about it. Right now I’d just classify it as “dance music” I’m not ready to commit to a specific genre just yet.

The UK young bucks have pioneered a modern genre that hasn’t really been defined. It’s almost like the Croydon crew all over again. What do you think it is? Is there something in the water over there?

I think it goes in waves, younger generations are inspired to make music by the elder. It just takes a few years for the new movements to build. Hopefully this new popularity of electronic music will inspire more “young bucks” to get into music.

You really hit the spot with your debut ‘Girl EP’ what production-wise led up to those tunes and made you confident about putting them out?

I actually had the tunes sitting around for a little while beforehand. Production wise they all linked up with a similar sound that seemed good to me. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

Right off Radio 1 supported you on the airwaves and some top Djs played your tunes in the club. What recommendations do you have for young producers trying to get their tunes out?

Nobody likes spam. Do some research on who you’re sending music to. Direct emails/tweets/links work better than cc’ing everybody.

We heard about some big remixes in the works. Tell us a bit who your reworking.

I’ve just finished up remixes for Empire Of The Sun, and Kastle. Currently working on another for which I’ll keep under wraps right now! I love remixing, it gives me the chance to do something different .

Your second EP ‘Your Trust’ just dropped this August. What can we expect from these late summer tunes?

Things get a bit vocal! I’m still building a sound that works for me. I didn’t want to just make the same EP again. It will be very interesting to see how it’s received.

To finish a bit general; from a young fresh outlook, where do you see pop music going in the next few years?

Haha, thats a very tough question to answer. I’d like to think that people are supporting upcoming talent a lot more, helping them get the recognition/exposure they deserve. Recently we’ve seen a lot of breakthrough acts doing really well, which is great for pop music as a whole.

Cheers mate.
