After a silent 2011, last year’s San’en EP saw Black Acre boss and Berlin-based producer Fantastic Mr Fox‘s productions drift towards more song-like forms, only to have The Trap / Jackal Youth 12″ point back to the dancefloor this time around. Up top he dices with Colonel Abrams on ‘The Trap’, threading elements of the ’80s boogie classic through swinging, percolating drums and gasping synths finished with that super-cushioned production bounce he’s made his own. On the flip, the sprung funky house bob of ‘The Jackal’ cheekily hints at a former alias of his, both in name and groove. With each tune in the lower 120bpm range and complimenting the other well, I can’t wait to see more of him. Big up!
