Climbers

We have just caught up with west coast deep duo Climbers after their recently released single. The two young producer have made a mark on the rising tides of house, being supported by some huge imprints on both sides of the Atlantic. Their proclaimed Cali-esque take on dance is fitting for the summertime dance floor.

Luckly it seems the storm of terrible producer and fad genres is nearing end. With acts like the Climbers sprouting up, the rain of dubstep seems almost worth it. This summers lineups and release are nothing but four on the floor techno bliss, and the news from Ibiza hints a golden age of dance has yet to come. Get ready for a few years of summer vacation party people. You can bet on hearing the Climbers all along the way.

See what they had to say about their latest tunes and the female influence on what’s hot. Keep tabs on Climbers for up to date tracks on their rise to the top.

Many of our readers have heard your big releases but don’t know much on your background. Hailing from Mexicali, Mexico how did you guys get into this project?

JB: Well first of all thank you guys for the interview.  We started about 2 years ago when Kiko was having a hard time in his life, and so was I. I remember we were talking on the couch of my flat about we wanting to quit our dreams in music and starting to work on our “proper” careers.

KD: I remember jay told me something like… you know what? we should make a track, just to have fun and to have something to show our kids when we get old. At the beginning i said no, but i didn’t have anything more exciting to do so we start working on music. It all started from that day on the couch  😉

You have released on some huge imprints like Culprit and Get Physical, how have these squads helped you guys break into the scene?

JB: both labels know what to do with their artists, they know the business and support all the aspects which is why they put out quality releases and provide global exposure. Obviously Get Physical have been around longer in the industry than Culprit but definitely both are great labels.

The deep sound is really clicking right now. It seems like a perfect fit globally. What do you think prompted this?

KD: I think the girls. The sound is smooth,  sexy and perfect for a slow dance, girls love that kind of style and every guy wants to be in a party full of hot girls, and girls too feel more comfortable to be in a place with more girls than guys.

JB: It’s the perfect mix.. on one side you got all the musical aspects, its groovy and soulful, and on the other side you got  girls dancing in bikinis… you can’t beat that!

Your new tune ‘Criminal Love’ has an amazing vocal! How did your link up with Yasmine, and what have you guys found as best practices when getting a perfect vocal fit?

JB: we meet Yasmine a year ago at a reunion with some friends, i was playing some tracks and this girl came with her violin and start playing over the tracks a classic musical style, that definitely blew our minds and, after a few drinks we had a deal to make an EP. Later we found out she has an amazing voice too – that was a real discovery for us!

Climbers have a long relationship with Culprit after a slew of releases. How do you choose tracks to release with them?

KD: It’s the “sound,” when we release with Culprit for the first time they told us, “You guys got the real “california sound” so every time we feel that sound we talk with them and see what we can do.

JB: When we played in Playa Del Carmen at the culprit vs leftroom party this year, our last track was “Criminal Love,” it was totally new the first time we played it and Andrei of Culprit came to us, he ask for the track right away, he wanted to sign it – the funny part is we already felt criminal love was a Culprit track when we made it. We knew it’s right for the label and Culprit is home for us so it worked out perfectly.

You just came off of a big European tour, any highlights / naughty Euro nights?

KD: Europe is great as always, this time we had so many crazy parties and good stories, but more than naughty i think those were tired nights. We finish a gig at 3 and at 5am we were at the airport getting the flight for the next one, 3 or 4 days on a road, at the end we were so tired and glad to be back in home

In the past two years you two have really taken the next step and set of with releases and gigs, what factors do you think helped you make a great imprint on the industry?

JB: we just try to be honest, we don’t want to pretend or be like someone else, all the time we try to have fun at our gigs, keep making music that we feel, doesn’t matter the deadlines or other pressures, just enjoy each day and i think that’s a important approach to climb in this industry, but at the end the music is going to speak for himself.

Any big upcoming secrets you can let us in on?

KD: if i let you know then its not going to be a secret any more, don’t you think?
