Arkitekt 02: Luca Bacchetti [Arkitekt Recordings]

The second Arkitekt compilation comes from Italian DJ and producer Luca Bacchetti. Focusing on the more forward thinking strains of house and techno, the Arkitekt mandate gleefully plunders the underground elements of modern dance music culture.

Currently residing in Barcelona, HQ of his own label Endless, the DJ / producer made swift business of spreading his signature twists and musical turns through myriad productions and remixes released on labels such as Ovum Recordings, Crosstown Rebels, Wagon Repair, Culprit, Saved, Be As One, Defected, Hideout, Sci+Tec and Supernature. Additionally, he’s accrued a host of accolades including a nod from Beatport as best artist in 2008 that confirmed Luca’s status as an industry leader. As a DJ, Bacchetti’s style is incomparable, showcasing his unique ear for selection and a rare ‘voice’ to which he adds a sexiness uncommon amongst his peers. Equally versed at moving a dark basement club to fits of revelry as he is to casting a deep shadow across a sunny beach party, the breadth and depth of sources from which Luca culls his sets astounds constantly. It is this duality of emotion that interests the DJ and inspires his work on his many releases.

This ethos is clearly reflected in his Arkitekt mix alongside informed recognition of key artists, imprints and sounds. Tracks from Isolée, Culoe De Song, Tale Of Us, Mathew Jonson, Luciano, sit with remixes from Ewan Pearson, Carl Craig, Four Tet, alongside releases on labels Ghostly International, Ninja Tune, Innervisions, Crosstown Rebels and Endless. In the wrong hands it could go dangerously off track, but Luca’s skill in selecting and weaving records together not only guides the overall mix but emphasises each individual track’s qualities. Luca features three of his own productions over the two mixes, with ‘California’ – exclusive to Arkitekt – closing off the album.

“The chance to mix a double CD for Arkitekt has given me the opportunity to capture a photo of this moment in my life through two distinct paths, with as many facets and colours as possible, without being conditioned by a specific stylistic constraint. The right context for a classic DJ Set is the Club; but this CD has a different concept because although inspired by the club scene, you will be listening to it in other settings. Therefore its construction is based on different criteria: those of colours. Whereas the first disk begins with deep tones which transform into a rich palette of bright colours, the second disk is more introspective with even deeper tones. It’s as if from within the colour spectrum I start from green as the centre, to then set off and explore the opposites.” Luca Bacchetti – June 2013.
