Yep, a baby was hoisted up above the crowd at Glastonbury Festival this year, The Guardian reports. The paper’s Tim Jonze reports that while other Glasto-goers were watching the likes of Dizzee Rascal and The Rolling Stones at the festival’s main stages, down at the Rabbit Hole – where the festival’s Michael Eavis performed a karoake version of Elvis Presley’s ‘Suspicious Minds’ backed by The Vodka Jellies Karaoke Band – a baby was crowd-surfing.

“The baby in question did at least surf with the protection of a baby buggy”, reports Jonze, “hoisted up, I originally assumed, by parents desperate to immerse their sprog in the most bruising of gig rituals. “Stop!” screamed the lady next to me when the baby first emerged. “I’m sorry, but this is just not right!” shouted another. But still the baby marched on, the buggy passed from audience member to audience member. People continued tutting but at least the baby seemed to be in tune with the spirit of the festival: like most Glastonbury-goers, he was unable to form complete sentences and could not handle solid food.”

Jonze then reports that the whole motive of the baby’s march was to reach the stage, where his father was one of the musicians.  “Oh, that’s his dad on stage!” said a local, as if to say it all made perfect sense now and that it was suddenly an appropriate thing to witness. “This was no longer an irresponsible act of child cruelty but simply one baby’s mission to crowd surf towards his musician father, one of the members of the band. What could be more commonplace?”

Too far? I find this hilarious, but yes.
