Kidnap Kid – Thin Lines feat. Lotti

Kidnap Kid has definitely grown since his Alphaville EP last year. His recent remix of Rudimental’s ‘Waiting All Night’ takes advantage of a small section of the original’s vocal hook before deploying thunderous, tropical percussion over and over again. It’s spacious but very danceable, and the same can be said of this new one. However they’re very different pieces of music.

‘Thin Lines’, like ‘Waiting All Night’, presents a lot of space around the main motifs, but all that space is shaded in pale colours. These colours vary from the faint croons of a small choir, to the hints of piano that linger in the air long after the keys have been hit. It’s a dense track masquerading as a sparse one.

If you remove the magnifying glass and just listen though, you’ll be treated to a sweet slice of deep house. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’ll still make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up if you’re dancing with the right person. The vocalist, Lotti, also happens to sound quite a bit like Kimbra – a characteristic which is never a hindrance if you’re trying to set a mood.

More than that though, the depth in the production tells me that bigger things are to come from Kidnap Kid. Here’s looking forward to them.
