First Reactions to Daft Punks ‘Random Access Memories’

Update: Read our in-depth review of Daft Punks ‘Random Access Memories”

So, you and your friends have already had a listen but what do your favourite DJs and producers think of Daft Punks new album ‘Random Access Memories’?

As you’d expect there’s both positive and negative feedback. Personally, first and second listen in and we’re really enjoying the same sentiments as Australian based duo What So Not who proclaimed it as ‘Anti-EDM’

It’s also funny to see that a lot more synth-based producers and groups are the first to catch on to the stream while ‘big names’ like Diplo, Avicii and Skrillex are yet to make any comments.

We’ll be updating this as they land, for now stream Daft Punks ‘Random Access Memories’ here.

——————————————————————————————————————————————–

A-Trak: The Daft album is essentially a cross-section of a crate-digger’s collection. Which is a great thing.

Dillon Francis: Can you un-pre order the daft punk album?

What So Not: Daft Punk = Anti-EDM

Moullinex: Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories sounds like a retired session musician reunion recording. Ah, wait…

Bag Raiders: Daft Punk Album discussion? I’m about half way through, I incredible e sounding record!!! Giorgio by Mororder is epic/insane. So far i’m favouriting on Instant Crush..

Sharooz: It’s a classic disco record with amazing production values and it’s done very well, but I felt they could have pushed things so much further and deeper with all the resources they had.. And all the hype has made it sooo tiresome.. just my opinion.

Tommie Sunshine: please try to remember that the Daft Punk album costs less than a hit of Molly.

Russ Chimes: Well, i massively enjoyed it, no doubt it will only sound better tomorrow too. I love the melancholy, the minor keys and the moments, the live drums and the prog rock wig outs. There’s a few tracks that I don’t connect with, and i can also see why others won’t like it. It’s indulgent, and not anything particularly new, but it gave me goosebumps and the majority of the tracks remind me what i absolutely love about music. Cheers Robots x

The Knocks: This album is amazing. Fucking Disco. The Robots win.

The Magician: Goosebumps and tears on “Giorgio by Moroder”. #ram #infiniterespect

Joakim: I bet people who don’t get Steely Dan won’t get that new Daft Punk

Zomby: This daft punk thing needs more gunshots and airhorns

Boddika: I’m glad they haven’t been swept away with today’s awful generic pop formula, instead they kept it Daft Punk.

Skream: Obviously pretty late on commenting but the new Daft Punk record is absolutely stunning… Looking forward to hearing it in its full quality next week

L-Vis1990: Did Andrew Lloyd Webber produce this album or what?!?

Diplo Rant:

This daft punk album would probably be really good to take drugs and listen to on a rainy bridge across the gulf of mexico but I dnt know

Reminds me of when I was 19 really high and listened to kid a over and over again but I don’t know if yung kids will get It

These guys are way smarter then me.I’m definitely missing something. Gonna listen to this panda bear song again 10 times brb

The song with todd edwards makes me feel like I’m alone at waffle house and the jukebox is broken and only micheal mcdonald plays out of it

When giorgio moroder made songs he wasn’t thinking about it intellectually he was jus doin it

I think the song with julian casablancas would be better with marky mark walbergs character from boogie nights doing the vocals

This album makes me not like LA now I jus wanna hang out with mexican kids and tag ur car

Motherboard sounds like a coked up austrian guy working on chariots of fire soundtrack then got fired but I fuck with it.

The song with paul williams needs more sidechain and less ragtime barbershop quartet

Dada Life: One more Daft Punk-thought… Most people thought (and was hoping) for them to come back and breathe new life into dance music. Instead they did something else – which is fine – but their new music just won’t be relevant for most dance floors today. And to be honest… “going back to the roots” will never be as innovative as a actually inventing new sounds.
