EXCLUSIVE: FLINCH MIX + INTERVIEW

Flinch_stoney

LA bass producer Adam Glassco, better known as Flinch has just completed his 5 date Australian tour with the help of our friends at Brown Bear Entertainment. Well known for his signature bass tones, heavy percussion and soaring melodies, Flinch has successfully carved out his place on the global electronic music scene through constantly touring and releasing tracks on labels like Trouble & Bass and SMOG. After the release of his well received single ‘World On Fire’, Flinch has received backing from a number of high profile artists including Skrillex, 12th Planet, and Datsik.

I got the chance to have a chat to Flinch and pick his brain about touring, trends, production and his thoughts about the current and future state of the electronic music industry.

Can you tell us a bit about you upcoming shows?

I have a bunch of really cool shows coming up this month including this Friday at Control in Los Angeles w/ Seven Lions. The venue where they throw this party is a staple for dance music and is notorious for breaking new LA talent.

Im hitting Tulsa Oklahoma for my first time with Adventure Club early June, I’ll also be in New York at Webster Hall June 7th, another one of my favorite venues in the states.

Also looking forward to Paradiso Festival toward the end of June at the Gorge in Washington State.

What is your live setup when touring?

When I’m touring I keep it down to the essentials, 2 cdj 2000 a Pioneer 900 and a heap of fresh new tracks.

Were there any highlights from your recent visit to Australia?

The entire trip was sooo much fun its hard to choose, I’d say the highlight was Bigape in Perth! That crowd was all about it, overall I really just loved meeting a bunch of new people

What artists have influenced your production?

I’m influenced by ALL types of music so it would take a while to list ALL of them! A small list would be Brillz, Xilent and Kastle

Do you have any tips for up and coming producers?

The only tip I can give to an up and comer is to never look back and try to do something new and original, it might take a while to get what you want but you can get it!

Where do you see electronic music heading over the next few years and who are the key influencers at the moment?

I see electronic music continuing to grow and evolve into new sounds genres and scenes. I anticipate a revival of the underground (as far as events go) I think the events are about as big as they can get without losing the vibe entirely. I think abstract IDM could make a big come back in the next couple of years. I can’t wait to see where we end up.

How do you feel when people like Justin Beiber and Brittany Spears try to cash in from your craft by incorporating dubstep breakdowns into their pop songs?

I think that its predictable and at the end of the day I think it makes the bigger pop artists look kinda desperate to stay relevant

Do you see any longevity in trap music?

Yes. I think trap music has already influenced so many producers to think in a different context, it brings it back to the basics and shows you complexity sometimes is just not necessary to make people shake their ass

Do you have any collaborations in the works?

LOTS! I have a really cool collaboration with fellow SMOG Records producer Infuze and an amazing vocalist named Elan that should be dropping soon. Its kinda like reggae meets trap. Another collaboration I’m about to release is a skakny dubstep track with LoBounce as well as a huge Trappy tune with Brillz.

Can you tell us anything about next release and what records labels you’d like to work with in future?

As far as labels SMOG Records is my home base.. though i will be doing some free releases as well on my website www.flinchmusic.com

My next couple releases will be a variety of dubstep, hip hop, reggae, 808s and Vocals varying in bpms from 110 – 160

What else can we expect from you in 2013?

Im planing a US summer tour with some of my favorite SMOG artists, more details will be announced soon, and putting out loads of new originals and remixes I have lots of new music for 2013, some that most Flinch fans would expect and some that will be surprising.
