Billboard Awards Dance Artists With Strangely Similar Sounding Award Names

You might have missed it but Billboards 2013 Music Awards went off last night at the MGM Grand Las Vegas and the usual dance artists picked up prizes!

Skrillex grabbed ‘Top EDM’ Album with ‘Bangarang’ while Madonna managed to nab, what we believe to be the same thing with the ‘Top Dance Album’

Bauuer’s all-conquering “Harlem Shake” shook off all other contenders to take out two awards… that again, seem all too similar to us – ‘Top EDM Song’ and ‘Top Dance Song’

The big cheese David Guetta was crowned ‘Top EDM Artist’ which is a laugh to us but great to see Swedish House Mafia not win something. His comment on winning is just as camp; “When they put me on the cover four years ago and said EDM would be big, I thought ‘these guys are crazy – this will never happen’ Imagine how I feel today.” (we imagine waking up on piles of money is great).

He then went on to perform “Hard” with Ne-Yo and Akon… facepalm.

Which brings us to the question, since when in the hell were dance and EDM (electronic DANCE music) different things? Is ‘dance’ now some slightly pop sullied version? how can one artist take out both? isn’t that a contradiction of the judging criteria? Are we just jaded music bloggers?

On a lighter note, two highlights for us were Justin Beiber getting booed after winning the ‘Milestone Artist’ (oh and Cee-loo sweating up a storm) and Miguel fly-kicking some fans in the head when he tried to jump to another stage (and continue playing, without seeing if they were alright), watch below.
