Richie Hawtin’s Coachella Set: Sharing Is Caring

Techno’s favorite, Richie Hawtin had an unfortunate technical mishap before his set at the festival giant Coachella this past weekend. As told by our friends over at Pulse radio, Hawtin had to bow out only hours before taking the stage for a closing set from a broken hard drive. Apparently there was no backup plan in place as Richie stated his dismay to the fans. Cassy took over the mixing duties to round off the Saturday night slot.

HAWTIN SSD FAIL

As the Saturday night headliner, you can imagine there were more than a few disgruntled fans wanting to see the minimal giant and founder of CNTRL take the decks. In an interesting move, Hawtin went around the promoter and took to twitter asking for minutes to fit in a Sunday set. After a trip to the Apple store and some help from some Dj friends he was penciled in an hour and a half evening spot on Sunday. Jamie Jones, Maya Jane Coles, and Loco Dice all pitched in a bit to ensure the desert got a bit of Richie’s tunes for week one. Just more proof of how the dance industry is a big group of friends. As djs spend months on the road, Summertime festivals become the perfect place for friend who usually meet in airport lounges to get a full day or two to hang. Maybe Richie will return the favor by giving Maya and Jamie a bit of time in the CNTRL circuit.
