Distal – Nose Handy [Lucky Beard Recs]

Distal - Rings

Dropping last week via Lucky Beard Records, Atlanta-based beatsmith Distal airs his killer Rings EP, complete with 4 tracks of bass alchemy. Said to sit on a “weirder and more esoteric” tip than his other releases, all four tracks have forgotten BPM and genre to the masses, relying heavily on the lower registers to produce an array of amped up club music, from the cinematic Hard House Cheer Squad to the futuristic Nose Handy. In an effort to try and convey this aim of futurism, Adam Stephenson’s cover art of the EP focuses directly on this; “I wanted all the themes in the other tunes to play out in this futuristic city on another planet.” Nose Handy hits hard; it’s bass music at its highest profession. Easily the personal highlight of the release for me, its uniqueness and weird flavours make it such an exciting tune. All in all though, the entire EP is dope. If you’re into your lower-end bass rhythms, this is for you.
