Daft Punk first interview goes into detail on state of EDM and production

In their first interview, Daft Punk talked about the new album and reveal why they believe dance music is going nowhere at the moment.. For now.

Thomas Bangalter discussed the problem he perceived within all dance genres – “Electronic music right now is in its comfort zone and it’s not moving one inch…That’s not what artists are supposed to do…You hear a song, whose track is it? There’s no signature. Skrillex has been successful because he has a recognisable sound: You hear a dubstep song, even if it’s not him, you think it’s him.”

On the making of the ‘Random Access Memories‘, which the first single can be previewed here – “There are songs on the album that travelled into five studios over two and a half years…They’re vials being filled up with life. Today, electronic music is made in airports and hotel rooms, by DJs travelling. It has a sense of movement, maybe, but it’s not the same vibe as going into these studios that contain specific things.”

In another connection relating to the album, Daft Punks latest teaser video which was aired at Coachella first to an underwhelmed crowd shows off the Hedi Slimane designed suits, which now explains why the duo were involved in the music for a Saint Laurent fashion show last October. (See below)
