Rudimental – Waiting All Night (Kidnap Kid Remix)

Kidnap Kid strips back a thick chunk of d&b for his reinterpretation of Rudimental’s latest offering. While the original’s vocal rides over a body of tightly-packed layers, Kidnap Kid prefers a percussive approach that reminds me of Disclosure’s Tenderly/Flow EP, as well as the man’s own earlier material.

Disclosure moved past that sound a long time ago, so it’s nice to see that someone is continuing to push it. The tuned percussion sounds employed to lay down the chords at the peak of the track have a distinctly tropical feel, but they’ve been warped by their surroundings so that the track as a whole is urban and grimy.

Needless to say, it’s worth a few minutes of alone time with your ears.
