James Blake – Voyeur

Where has James Blake been hiding? While most of us have worn out his seminal CMYK release; 2011’s self-titled album and his later EP Enough Thunder seemed moved away from bass inspired tunes and into, if not a little indie, structured song writing, he appears to back with his distinctive unusual sound on Voyeur. Premiered through Mary Anne Hobb’s BBC 6 show, it won’t be on his forthcoming album but released as a single through his newly formed 1800 Dinosaur label. The track, all slow burning and delicate piano melodies with washed-out, but tender vocals ‘Cos I am flawed / When I am through love’s doors’, suddenly hits you like an unexpected crotch grab on the dance floor around the three minute mark. Voyeur is the English producer at his best, all succinctly weird lyrics, dark emotions and bass lines.

While his Sydney and Melbourne shows sold out before many of us could type in our credit cards details his album Overgrown will be released on April 7th and Voyeur can be streamed below.
