Beaport Bought By Big Dance Business SFX Entertainment

Sillerman strikes again as last night news spread about his purchase of the staple dance music marketplace Beatport. The media giant has been on grind recently scooping up assets throughout the electronic music world. His goal: to build a billion dollar empire centered around electronic music. With buys like this, and money continuously flowing into the industry, the EDM train doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

Sillerman’s company SFX entertainment made a name in the 90’s creating a nationwide network of promoters which now is the base plate of music massive promoter Live Nation. With a track record including huge acquisitions, and an interest in dance, we can only expect huge boosts for Beatport in alternate revenue streams. Over the past year SFX snatched up events such as Dayglow and Disco Donnie presents. The rumour mill even speculates plans to grab Pasqualle Rotella’s Insomniac events. After recent word of dissension in the ranks of the Electric Daisy Carnival super=promoter, we could easily see the sale going through. In the meantime his purchase of Beatport means big power for the media mogul. We assume SFX has big plans on how to overhaul the music sales platform to compete with the times.

The way we buy and sell music is in dire need of reform. The days of platinum records translating into platinum jets are long gone. Disclosure’s 2012 smash tunes topped the charts and went silver in the Uk. This industry favorite still sold under 500k copies. How does that transfer into profit for artists, label, and management? With streaming services growing, and premium label memberships as this months fad; we want to see the next step in music sales. We predict that SFX will develop fresh and intuitive ways for fans to purchase music at a price they are happy with.

Beaport’s recent upgrades as a media platform, Dj network, and mix marketplace show their willingness to grow into a 1 stop shop for dance. Beatport’s top boss Matthew Adell expressed future expansion into the event sector for the web platform as a result of the purchase. As new festivals pop up daily, the money is definitely in the parties. With weekend events costing upwards of 400 USD a ticket, ravers are paying more and more to get their rage release. Exciting times are coming for dance music as big money flows in. With Djs landing on Billboard charts, at the Grammys, and selling out stadiums, it seems the wheels of steel may be the future of music as we know it.
