Kölsch’s Live Set At Panorama Bar

I find myself defending the ‘live dj set’ a lot to people who are oddly skeptical of electronic music. “Why are you paying to see someone just press a couple of buttons and play tracks to you when your iPod can do the same thing?” is the ‘intelligence’ I’m usually met with. Sometimes I prefer not to waste my breath on justifying my stance but when I’ve had a decent hit of caffeine and am offended enough to retort I will usually respond with something along these lines:

Seeing a DJ you respect, who you admire and who produces music you are incapable of even dreaming up is an experience you cherish. You are not there to see them press buttons, you are there to witness the music they enjoy, the music they want to share with you and the music they love and it is almost in a sense more intimate then seeing a live band could ever be. Rather than rattle off their discography they invite you into a realm that is otherwise unattainable. Together with them, for an hour or two (if you’re lucky) you get to be there while you delve deep into their mind while they take you on a musical journey.

This is one of those DJ sets I wish I was there for.
