Grammy winning dubstep producer Skrillex will be creating an original score for Harmony Korine's new comedy film Spring Breakers starring James Franco.
The details were spilled in a recent Pitchfork interview with movie director Randall Poster, who was conversing on his new co-produced flick 'Moonrise Kingdom' with Wes Anderson and touched on the general 'proliferation' of music;
"I'm working on Harmony Korine's movie Spring Breakers now, and Skrillex is doing original music for us. I had heard of Skrillex, but I wasn't watching it that closely. And Harmony, who I've worked with forever, sent me a link to some Skrillex YouTubes, and I saw one had 54 million hits"
Adding "I thought he had somehow figured out a way to manipulate the numbers. And then it dawns on you: There are kids that are never going to buy a record. They're just going to play songs on YouTube"
Stranger still to the predicted red cups and wubs is the reports that new Mad Decent signee Riff Raff will be the basis of James Francos character in the movie.
Sonny chimed in, "I think this film is going to turn a lot of heads in many ways. It was a lot of fun to work with Harmony because he gave me the freedom and trust to do whatever I wanted. It was also super awesome having Cliff Martinez involved too. I think the work he did on Drive was spectacular and I was a big fan before I knew he was coming onto this project. Scoring to film is definitely a different approach to music making in the sense that it's not so much about how the music sounds by itself as it is finding ways to compliment the vibe of the film. I had so much fun with this project and can't wait for the final product."
To be honest, we're excited just reading the plot
Spring Breakers, currently being edited in Los Angeles and starring James Franco, Gucci Mane, Selena Gomez, VanessaHudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine, tells the story of Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith, four college students who live in a boring dorm and crave adventure. The great American collegiate experience, Spring Break, holds promise of adventure but the students lack the finances to fund their vacation. A serendipitous encounter with white rapper "Alien" (James Franco) promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget. Spring Breakers is produced by Chris Hanley, Jordan Gertner, Charles-Marie Anthonioz and David Zander, and wrapped production 8 weeks ago in St Petersburg, FL.
Bring it on!
