The DirtyBird, Flying High

If you’ve had the chance to check out the latest issue of the UK based Dj Mag, you saw the grizzly grin of San Francisco’s Dirtybird head honcho, Claude Von Stroke on the cover. Ever since his first record “Deep Throat” gained jaw-dropping international acclaim in 2005, and his debut track “The Whistler” hit the remix world in 2006, CVS and his NorCal crew have been soaring sky high. Backed by the roughneck SF Dirtybird team, including the Martin Brothers, Worthy and J-Phlip, CVS is building a birdbrain family of diehard fans, one dance floor at a time. With world tours, Essentials mixes, and even rave cruises under their belt, the Dirtybird roster is the ultimate new wave of bass injected tech-house.

The recent DJ Mag issue is a precursor to the anticipated WMC and Ultra Music Festival, beginning in just over a week. As we all know, during this one special week every year, Miami is the place to be for rubbing elbows with the who’s-who of electronic music. Dj Mag’s presence is welcomed with open arms each year as they take over the Shelborne hotel on South Beach for a mind-blowing week of non-stop pool parties, with sets from the likes of James Zabiela, Sasha, Jochim Garraud and Dennis Ferrer. The Dj Mag pool party on Wednesday, March 21st will feature JZ and Sasha head-to-head – and for the win – you guessed it, the big Birdman himself. During the week’s festivities, fans will share the sunshine with stars like A-Trak, Armand Van Helden, and Dubfire – look for your favorite Djs grabbing a drink by the pool or checking out another artist’s set. This year, Claude VonStroke is a new face in the lineup, and it’s an absolute guarantee he’ll make beats slap and booties clap all over the pool deck.

In addition to partaking in the Dj Mag Massive, Dirtybird will be throwing a shindig of their very own in downtown Miami. The following day, Thursday, March 22nd they’ll host the first installment of their beloved DB BBQ on the East Coast. Legendary in the San Francisco Bay area, their day parties at Golden Gate Park have been a hit since they started back in 2003. Since then, San Francisco’s music scene has never been the same. Their bass-laden BBQs are epically inviting free-for-alls that attract a flock of anywhere from 300-1000 Bay area party people, and they’ve grown to be so popular that the crew rarely even announces them anymore. With a residency at one of SF’s most crackin’ venues, The Mezzanine, this wild bunch throws parties several times a year with that same warm, all-inclusive feel, giving fans in their home city the chance to bump and grind for free with RSVP.

From the brilliant birdbrains of the original four Bay boys, this West Coast phenom is taking the world by storm, and we’re lucky enough to get a taste of what they’re cooking up in Miami this year. Here is their press release:

Dirtybird Announces HATCHED Miami BBQ Event
March 22nd w/ Claude VonStroke,
Justin Martin, Eats Everything, and more!

“It’s been 10 years since the Dirtybird family began their notorious BBQ parties in San Francisco, and this March the guys will be bringing their home cookin’ across the country for a mansion soiree unlike any other at Villa 221 in Downtown Miami. Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin will be firing up the grill as usual before hitting the stage along with sets from Leroy Peppers (Christian Martin’s badboy alias), Eats Everything, Worthy, Catz N Dogz, J.Phlip, Ardalan, and Justin Jay.

This Miami event is just one stop on the ongoing ‘HATCHED’ World Tour happening this Spring – celebrating an entire decade of culinary outdoor antics as well as the freshly released ‘HATCHED’ compilation featuring top tunes from the label’s roster. To mark this momentous anniversary the label bastions and DJ frontline will be performing in nine cities throughout the upcoming months, spanning the birthplace of the Dirtybird empire in San Francisco, through to New York, Detroit, Miami, LA, Paris, Brighton and London. The London show takes place over the Easter weekend and will be something of a milestone, hosting the biggest Dirtybird line-up ever to be assembled.

With 14 rooms and over 10,000 square feet of outdoor space, Villa 221 is a prime location for this unique event and will serve as a palatial playground to its eager patrons. Just a short distance from Bayfront Park, Villa 221 sits perfectly in the mix of all things WMC and provides a different aspect of a Miami mansion off of South Beach.

Dirtybird BBQ’s have been the staple to the growth of the label and the family of artists. The now legendary Golden Gate BBQ’s in San Francisco, were the brainchild of the four original Dirtybird members, Christian Martin, Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin and Worthy. They had a personal mission to change the landscape of San Francisco house music by throwing an epic free party in the park based on their new signature sound. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, they assembled the line-up themselves and Christian bought a massive, yet necessary sound system on his credit card. This was the beginning and set the standard for a new era of die-hard dedicated DIY producers, all with new productions based on heavy bass-lines, smiling faces and dance floor delights.

With 10 years of grill experience under their belts, the Dirtybird family is excited to cook up some tasty chicken for the city of Miami, served generously with sides of sweaty basslines and bass-driven funk.

Come hungry. Leave happy.”

In between burgers and beats we hope to catch up with Claude himself and gain some insight into what’s coming next from him and his crew. Stay tuned for an inside look at the event coming up shortly after Miami’s March Madness. In the meantime, make sure to check out some of Claude & Co.’s new tracks at DirtyBirdRecords.com, and take a listen to their new, 3-part ‘HATCHED’ release (preview on soundcloud or buy it on beatport), loaded with prime tracks from 14 of the label’s talented artists.
