Gang Colours – Fancy Restaurant

Gang Colours’ Fancy Restaurant EP is a great taster of his forthcoming album The Keychain Collection. As soon as I saw Machinedrum and Ifan Dafydd on remix duty I had a feeling this would be a big record, and there’s some seriously smooth bass delivery happening here. The original track is probably the best, which is never a bad thing; it has a really classic reggae bass feel to it, and some superb drum samples that have a jaunty swagger that reminded me a lot of James Blake‘s older records. Very chilled out and very impressive.

The remixes are all really good. Ifan Dafydd’s effort is probably the most distinctive, and the Machinedrum remix also stands on it’s own two feet as a solid track, with a slightly quicker and more club focussed feeling. The Deft remix is also stunning.

The EP is out February 19th on Brownswood Records.
