Julio Bashmore – Father Father EP

Sticklers for the rules will cry foul and say that house music is strictly in the realm of the 4/4 kick drum, and for quite some time I was one such person. Nowadays however, I’ve come to realise the term ‘house music’ has evolved past it’s own definition into the realm of its very own entity. House music is no longer strictly house music so to speak, and Bristol based producer Julio Bashmore is just one of the new names on the scene pushing forward the evolution of the genre.

You may have already caught his ridiculously on point ‘Everyone Needs a Theme Tune’ EP, his releases on Claude Vonstroke’s Dirtybird and Martyn’s 3024 or even perhaps his recent remix work for the High Powered Boys ‘Udon’ EP out now on Sound Pellegrino, but have you caught wind of his new ‘Father Father’ EP out now on new label, Future Boogie?

With a sterling A-side on the record, what really grabbed my attention is just how great the B-side was as well. I’m sure alot of people will cover the title track ‘Father Father’ but I think that there needs to be more light shed on the track ‘Craboon’ to be found on the flip (and below). Featuring off-kilter kick drums, highlighted 808 hats and just a touch of an emotional chord progression, Craboon comes bundled with perhaps a smidgen too much groove for your late night wind down but just enough heartstrings for you to make out on the dance floor.

Available now at your local download store, make sure you spend a moment to grab this gem when you can.

Also because I’m a little bit of a renaissance man, I’ve included a download to an older but no-less dope track of Julio’s, Jack Got Macked. Pianos lines scream alongside resonating LFOs and an oh-so-fitting vocal (considering my post) about the beginnings of house music and a man named Jack. With big thanks to Curb Crawlers for this one.
